Dr Roshila Moodley

		Dr Moodley is a seasoned lecturer with over eighteen years of experience in her field. She is an NRF rated researcher, a member of the UKZN Nanotechnology Platform (NanoHealth Pillar) and a long-standing academic in the School of Chemistry & Physics, and Science Access Programme. She has a strong postgraduate and publication record and has capacitated many students from developing countries, as a scientific host. Dr Moodley’s research endeavours are also aligned to national transformation and equity imperatives as she promotes gender equality in research.

Research Areas:		Dr Roshila Moodley’s research focuses primarily on indigenous medicinal plant species found in South Africa, and lies at the interface of natural products, analytical chemistry and nanotechnology. Her research goals are: to identify potential nutraceuticals from South African plant species in response to food and nutrition insecurity in the country, to identify active biomolecules in medicinal plants with potential as structural leads for new drug candidates, to find solutions using green nanotechnology-based materials to overcome health-related issues.
